Kent International Jamboree 2022

4th Worth Scouts enjoyed a fantastic summer camp this year at Kent International Jamboree. KIJ ran from Saturday 30th July to Saturday 6th August and 31 Scouts made the journey to Kent County Showground to take part in this large event along with over 5000 other young people from Scouts, Explorers, Guides and Rangers from all across the UK and from over 20 countries around the world.

This was the first summer camp that Scouts have been able to take part in since the pandemic, so for many of those attending this was their first week long camp, their first Scout camp and perhaps the biggest camp they’ve been part of. This didn’t stop them getting involved in everything that KIJ had to offer. This included a wide range of activities such as inflatables, driving experiences, 4×4 experiences, go-karts, climbing, abseiling, paintballing, bag jump and much more.

However, the fun didn’t stop there! During the evenings, an assortment of live entertainment every night including a fire show and battle of the bands, beach party and outdoor cinema. Several Scouts were also brave enough to enter the sub-camp talent show and perform on the sub-camp stage

Dover Castle

Tuesday was the sub-camp’s turn for the day trips and Scouts had the opportunity to explore Dover Castle and its medieval tunnels in the morning followed by the city of Canterbury in the afternoon, before returning to camp in time for dinner – an even busier and packed day than normal!

Global Issues

Adventure Challenge

Scouts also had the opportunity to complete some of the badges that they had been working on during the lead up to the camp including the Global Issues and International activity badges as well as the World and Adventure Challenge badges. As a result of this, four Scouts successfully completed their Chief Scout Gold Awards on camp. Additionally, several Scouts took the opportunity to earn their Mechanic activity badges via an activity run by the Army.

After a very successful week, the Scouts have left KIJ having made new friends, some amazing memories and looking forward to their next camp!
