Rann & Milton Cubs Summer Camp August 2022

From Friday 5th August to Sunday 7th August 2022, Rann and Milton Cub Packs held their first Summer Camp post pandemic. This was held at our HQ, and we had 8 cubs in attendance.

The Cubs achieved many badges and parts of badges over the weekend frame. As well as other fun activities we had planned for them. Here’s some of what they got up to:

Athletics Badge

One of the activity badges we achieved was the Athletics badge. As part of this the Cubs completed:

A throwing activity, which included throwing bean bags into buckets which got progressively further away from them.
A running activity, which was a relay shuttle run. This required each Cub in their team to run 10m 6 times, and then to tag the next person.
Another running activity, but this time using an egg and spoon to balance on between two cones.
A team assault course, involving running, skipping, throwing, crawling and jumping!

Backwoods Cooking Badge

Another activity badge we completed was the Backwoods Cooking badge. To achieve this, the Cubs had to show how to light a fire, help someone prepare a fire for cooking on as well as cook something in the embers and on a stick.

We chose to cook dough twists on a stick, which the Cubs addorned with Jam once they were cooked.

For the ember cooking, the Cubs cooked banana with chocolate buttons wrapped in foil.

Artist Badge

The third activity badge the Cubs completed was the Artist badge. As part of this, they had to complete three different activities.

1. Make a kite

2. Paint a wooden plant pot and wind chime

3. Build a candle using a tin, wooden block and nails

Challenge Badges

The Cubs also got involved in many activities which counted towards their Challenge Badges.

Preparing and cooking their own burgers, potatoes and salad.

Learning to tie some simple knots (reef knot shown here).

Another of these activities was shelter building, which the Cubs conjured together using bamboo sticks and elastic bands, with a single sheet of tarp overtop to protect them from a billy of water poured over them!
