National Scout Rifle Championships 2023

The 45th National Scout Rifle Championships were held over the October 21st-22nd weekend in Bisley.

This year’s team representing 4th Worth stayed in a warm and cosy old railway carriage, along with many facilities including a club room, on the old railway platform near Bisley.

The shooting itself went very well, with no few than eight taking part in the Sporter class and five in the precision air rifle class. Our total team was 21 Scouts, Explorers and Leaders!

It was a very succesful weekend for us, despite over 800 Scouts …

Scout Summer Camp 2023 – Great Tower

Our Scouts had an amazing summer camp this year at Great Tower Scout Adventure Centre, close to Lake Windermere in Cumbria.

Twenty-seven Scouts and five Leaders braved the weather and the traffic on the long journey to the centre, arriving at the beautiful site to light rain. Kit unloaded and everything unpacked, a BBQ dinner and the fun began straight away with an activity to get them exploring the site and learning about their surroundings.

After an early start on Sunday, too early for the Leaders, the fun really began as the …

Saint George’s Day 2023

On Sunday 23rd April, 4th Worth attended the Saint George’s Day Parade at Goff’s Park for 2023. With over 100 young people in attendance, we had a fantastic turnout and were a large prescence at this district-wide event.

As part of this event, the flags of every section are paraded, as well as a communal renewal of our Promises.

Thanks to all those that attended!

Geoff’s Silver Acorn

Our CONGRATULATIONS to Geoff Ridgway (centre) for being awarded the Silver Acorn at an award ceremony on 2nd April.

The Silver Acorn award is for those who consistently go over and above in their Scouting and Geoff has certainly done that. Now aged 90, he has been in Scouting for over 70 years – all of his adult life!

A King’s Scout himself (an award he achieved back in 1951), Geoff has been a long-standing member of the 4th Worth Scout Group Executive Committee and he is also on the Crawley District Appointments Panel; responsible for …

Cub Leader Wood Badges

We got some very exciting news at the end of last week as two of our cub leaders completed their leader training and will now receive their wood badge.

It’s all the more exciting as both Stewart Feasby and Harrison Lynn joined 4th Worth as Beaver Scouts many years ago, so we have grown our own talent within the group as part of a bigger succession plan enabling us to continue to put on an exciting programme of Scouting activities and provide life skills to our young people. Congratulations to them both on their very …

Mums and Cubs Evening

Last night Keneu Cubs entertained their mums with the help of our young leaders, to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Together they sang camp fire songs, made drinks including tea and coffee and also served cakes as well.

The Cubs then challenged the Mums to several games, including a game of indoor hockey, which the Mums won!

Overall a fun and entertaining evening for all involved.

London Monopoly Run 2023

The first weekend in March plays host to the London Live Monopoly Run, a regular event for 4th Worth Scouts. This year six teams from 4th Worth joined over 1300 others from around the UK, spending a day in London playing a real-life game of Monopoly. Teams must try and visit as many of the Monopoly Board locations in London as possible in the day, buying properties where they can, paying rent where they need to and completing several different challenges along the way. Challenges include teams forming human pyramids or getting …

4th Worth Shooting Success

Our young shooters have now started their National Camel League that will take six months to complete. The final results and medals will not be known until the end of June.

In addition, this weekend two of our coaches sailed over to The Hague in Holland as part of British Shooting Pathway to take part in the Intershoot 2023 NL matches, with competitors coming from as far as Brazil, India and the rest of the world. Harley & Max started shooting through 4th Worth shooting group, moving onto the National Scout …

4th Worth Bonfire Night

On Saturday 5th November, 4th Worth hosted its annual Bonfire Night event. Come rain or shine, we always embrace the night head-on!

With fireworks, sparklers, burgers, hot dogs, a raffle and more, the night is one of our more successful events of the year.

We had a great turnout this year, depite the weather, and managed to raise over £1000 for the group! This contributes towards keeping subs low, as well as supporting the group with new equipment, maintenance costs etc…

Below are some photos from the event.

Keneu Cubs Half Term Camp

During October half term, 12 of Keneu’s Cubs attended a 4-night-away camp at Parkwood Campsite, Poynings.

While they were there, they completed several badges and had a great deal of fun, including getting very muddy in the process, even though the weather was kind to us.

The first of these badges was the Backwoods Cooking badge. The Cubs began by cooking their own burgers, simmering baked beans in a can, baking a jacket potato in the embers and also frying an egg inside a muffin tin. All of this was done …
