Keneu Cubs Half Term Camp

During October half term, 12 of Keneu’s Cubs attended a 4-night-away camp at Parkwood Campsite, Poynings.

While they were there, they completed several badges and had a great deal of fun, including getting very muddy in the process, even though the weather was kind to us.

The first of these badges was the Backwoods Cooking badge. The Cubs began by cooking their own burgers, simmering baked beans in a can, baking a jacket potato in the embers and also frying an egg inside a muffin tin. All of this was done over an open fire!

During this process, the Cubs learnt how to light a fire, treat the cans and billies for easy cleaning, as well as extinguishing the fire safely.

We then hiked to Devil’s Dyke, achieving a Hike towards the Hikes Away activity badge, but also completing all the necessary components for the Navigators Stage 2 badge, before returning to the campsite for a well earned rest!

While at the campsite, the Cubs completed a string trail which was laid out by the two Young Leaders with us, and explored the tunnels and attempted the assault course that are on site.

We also attempted to make lanterns using square and triangular lashings, as well as figure-of-eight knots. These were not easy, but as you can see below, we got them done in the end!
